Course Overview

Dozer Training Course – Get Qualified with SKIVL

SKIVL offers high-quality, nationally recognised dozer training designed to develop your skills and confidence in operating these powerful machines. Our course combines theoretical learning with practical, hands-on training using a well-maintained fleet of machinery at simulated worksites across NSW.

This training is aligned with RIIMPO323E – Conduct civil construction dozer operations, a unit of competency from the nationally endorsed Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package. It is suitable for individuals working in or entering site-based roles in civil construction.

While this unit equips you with essential operational skills, please note that it does not cover independent loading or unloading of dozers onto transport vehicles.

Whether you’re starting out or building on existing experience, SKIVL’s dozer course is a valuable step toward advancing your career in the civil infrastructure industry.

Course Requirements

The dozer operator training is tailored for individuals who are currently working in or aspiring to enter the construction industry. To enrol for our dozer course and obtain your licence, students must meet the following requirements.

  • You should be able to read and write basic English.
  • Pass a language, literacy and numeracy assessment (LLN).
  • Be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Wear steel-capped or safety boots on site.
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. Go to www.usi.gov.au to register

USI Details

From 1st January 2015, each student who will be commencing nationally recognised training in Australia is required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to be able to obtain their certificate or qualification from their registered training organisation. Students are encouraged to create a USI prior to attending any training.

To create a USI please head to the following website: https://www.usi.gov.au/. If you already have your USI number, then please ignore this step.

Course Outcomes

  • Units of competency for this course result in receiving a statement of attainment in the following –

    • RIIMPO323E Conduct civil construction dozer operations
    • RIIMPO308F Conduct tracked dozer operations

Your updated skill set

Completing this course will enable you to –

Prepare for Dozer Operation

Identify hazards, follow safe work practices, read manuals and instructions, assess the site, use PPE, and conduct pre-operational checks.

Operate the Dozer

Perform start-up procedures, drive and operate the dozer safely, adapt to changing conditions, monitor risks, minimise environmental impact, and complete tasks as planned.

Shut Down and Finalise

Park and shut down the dozer safely, carry out routine maintenance, report faults, clean and store equipment properly, and maintain accurate records.

If you are first trying to drive a dozer, then it may feel like a tricky task, but as you continue to drive the dozer and get familiar with the vehicle and its operations, working with a dozer won’t seem like a daunting task.

All learners will be assessed through observation during on-the-job or role play simulation, and questioning that may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interviews.

If you are confident and have proof of at least 12 months of assessment, then you don’t have to take the course and can just take the assessment.

It is not mandatory to have dozer experience; however, if you DO NOT have any experience, then as a beginner, it becomes mandatory to undergo the full training course before the assessment.

The assessment for dozer operations is a theory and practical component. Trainees who go in for the assessment will be tested on their knowledge of Dozer Operations, safety procedures, and site management, followed by a practical assessment where they demonstrate their skills in operating the machinery.

If you are unable to pass your dozer training, you can always discuss reassessment options with our team at SKIVL. We will try our best to offer support and feedback to help you prepare for your next attempt; however, additional payment may be applicable.
