WHERE CAN IT TAKE YOUR CAREER?

Skid steer ticket is the latest nationally accredited qualification that equips you with the skills needed to operate a skid steer loader to load, haul and distribute materials.

This course is perfect for learners who:

  • Are seeking to gain the knowledge and skills required to conduct skid steer operations
  • Are seeking work in site-based roles in civil infrastructure
  • Require refresher training
  • VOC’s also offered for students who currently hold there Skid Steer ticket

HOW IS THE COURSE DELIVERED?

Skid steer training is delivered via Face-to-Face.

Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed up to 3 days (3 days training and assessment)

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend up to 3 days operating depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

This course is designed to develop your expertise in working in site based roles. Among others, you will learn to:
  • Plan and prepare for skid steer loader operations
  • Operate a skid steer loader in line with established requirements
  • Load, carry and place materials to complete work activity

All learners will be assessed through observation during on-the-job or role play simulation, and questioning that may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview.

At the time of enrolment, the applicant must:
  • Be minimum 16 years of age
  • Have basic english and literacy skills*
  • Have basic numeracy skills*
  • Have good general health and fitness for the practical task (ability to climb in/out of machine, operate controls etc.)
**Students who fail the LL&N assessment may still be enrolled to the course if endorsed by the trainer/assessor, and corresponding additional support strategies are in place
To support you in your new course with SKIVL, we will provide the following:
  • Additional course readings and resources recommended by trainers.
  • At least one (1) skid steer loader
  • Tools and equipment for repair and maintenance of skid steer loader and attachments
  • Cleaning equipment or product
  • Refuelling product and equipment
  • Tie down or securing equipment
  • Transport vehicle with float or trailer large enough for the skid steer loader
  • Relevant housekeeping records
  • Site personnel, e.g., licensed dogger or rigger

  • Legislative, organisation and site requirements
  • Workplace policies and procedures
  • Standard operating procedures and safe work practices

  • Manufacturer’s guidelines and specifications
  • Australian standards
  • Relevant state/territory WHS legislation
  • Relevant state/territory environmental protection legislation
  • Relevant state/territory fatigue management regulations
  • Relevant state/territory permit regulations and requirements
  • Relevant organisational templates
 
At least two (2) attachments which may include but are not limited to:
  • Multipurpose bucket
  • Forks
  • Dozer blade
  • Backhoe
  • Auger
  • Chain digger
  • Power broom
  • Profiler
  • Tiller/mixer
  • Rotary hoe
  • Hammer
  • Asphalt cutter/saw
  • Concrete cutter/saw
  • Rake
 
At least two (2) material types which may include:
  • Topsoil
  • Clays
  • Silts
  • Gravel
  • Mud
  • Stone
  • Rock, which might be: Metamorphic, Igneous, Sedimentary
  • Blended materials
  • Organic materials, Bituminous mixes
 
To complete your course, you will need ongoing access to the following:
  • Safety helmet
  • Hi-visibility clothing
  • Ear protection
  • Protective footwear
  • Gloves
Students who complete this course may choose to pursue further studies in a range of qualifications, such as:
  • RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction*
  • RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations*
*These qualifications are not offered by SKIVL. 

Due to the high-risk nature of the unit, RPL pathway is identical to the Assessment Only Pathway, where students are required to complete the assessment activities as a challenge test of their existing knowledge and skills competency.
